CHASING ACONCAGUA'S CANADIAN FEMALE RECORD

Reaching the Summit of one of the World's Highest Mountains by Continent by Running

Hey there! My name is Emma, born in QC, Canada - I am an endurance athlete, deeply passionate and committed to discovering the most remote places in the world, combining ultra running and alpinism

In December 2023, I intend to attempt to run and climb, in a single push from base camp to the top of Aconcagua, one of the "Seven Summits", known as the highest mountains on each of the seven continents.

As I pursue this adventure, I aspire to act as a positive role model for people to pursue their passion and discover their true potential. Running allows me to enjoy the sounds of nature and to explore sensations and emotions I cannot otherwise experience in daily life. I am also determined to make a positive impact on the places I will explore to carry strong social or environmental messages.

Seven Summits

The Seven Summits are comprised of the highest mountains on each of the seven continents of the Earth: Everest, Aconcagua, Denali, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Mount Vinson, Carstens Pyramid and Kosciuszko. Reaching the summit of the second tallest one of them is regarded as a highly respected mountaineering achievement.

ACONCAGUA,
SOUTH AMERICA

6962m - 22828ft

This project will take place in December 2023 in the mythical region of the Central Andes of Argentina, where I will attempt to conquer Aconcagua's summit from Plaza de Mulas and back in a single push. Towering above the surrounding Andean peaks, Aconcagua is the tallest peak on Earth outside of Asia, and the second of the Seven Summits, after Everest.

This adventure is an experience like no other, combining the sport of ultra trail running. Based on my knowledge, this would also be a Canadian and Quebec female record, which I take with a lot of humility, given that the conditions may be extremely difficult on Aconcagua. The project involves running in wild and high places with temperatures of -30°C degrees and 50 kh winds, without oxygen.

Raising funds
for ANEB

Anorexie et boulimie Québec

Today, the conversation about eating disorders in endurance sports increasingly includes both men and women's voices. Confronting this issue may require recognizing that the whatever-it-takes mentality is an inextricable part of endurance sports. For athletes, eating disorders are often an attempt to excel at the sports that comprise their lives and form the basis of their identities.

For 36 years now, ANEB has been providing professional services to offer hope and support to people suffering from eating disorders. Having been personally affected by eating disorders, it goes without saying that I have wanted to get involved with this cause for a long time now. I believe it is now time.

As I grow as an athlete, I understand that, if we want to overcome eating disorders, we can't let them continue being taboo. This is why I'lI be raising funds for ANEB and using my voice, so that I can have a positive impact on society's perception over eating disorders.

Last Words

Running one of the Seven Summits embodies a different and more sustainable vision of life, where people are empowered to reach their true potential, sharing their wisdom through movement, adventures and connections, and to establish mindful connections with different environments and communities.

While sharing the empowering adventure of stepping outside our comfort zone and pushing your limits in challenging environments, I intend to bring more women into the ultra running and high-altitude realm. Closing the gender gap one mountain at the time.
